Tuesday night this week was Full Moon and we had a festival under the Cherry Trees in our Library Park. The moon accepted the invitation ad so did the poets and storytellers, the musician and the people who came to join us but the Cherry blossoms have yet to appear. Still, a good sized crowd came to enjoy the Fire Poi, storytelling, poetry readings and to read the poems hanging in the trees.
You might say our trees bloomed poems and story for the occasion. Watching the mothers and young children, some of whom were in strollers, huddle around the gas heaters we hired for the occasion, I was reminded again of how important rituals are for our imagination and feelings of connection, for our souls.
The moon looked bigger than this on the night – it’s hard to do it justice by photograph. Fire poi dancers called to her as she rose… painting the sky… as they did. A good night…friends meeting up with friends, making new friends… what a welcome for Spring. (photos by Bronagh Workman and Veronica Marwitz)
