You might notice that the last post is dated February which is, of course, not our Spring in the Southern Hemisphere. I wrote it as Spring arrived but forgot to publish it!!! And what’s more I notice that I said I’d post some photos of cobweb scarves and didn’t. Maybe that’s why I didn’t publish it… anyway, here they are…
On the other hand the white fibre looks very elegant with its pure silk water lilies and sequins. It’s hard to know how to describe Summer this year. I have to confess to having gone into a bit of a decline last Winter/Spring as the hip I had replaced two years ago became very painful. It’s a long and boring story but suffice to say that I had remedial surgery in January and I’m recovering. So, in a personal sense it’s been a slow, quiet and somewhat lost time but one spent watching wild events, tragedies and miracles here and in Australia and what some are calling a transformation in the Middle East and North Africa. All of it history unfolding with implacable reminders of the random violence of nature and humanity and the resilience, courage and loving ways that are human.
Weaving, making Felt and writing have been at a standstill. Today is the first time I have sat at my desk since before Christmas – apart from doing accounts and wrestling with the online accounting software from time to time to keep the accountant happy. It has been hot and humid and the Cicadas are deafening at our house. It’s been a great year for chickens, we have a hen who has hatched two clutches of chickens (why are they called Clutches?) so we have some tiny fluffy chicks and some teenagery ones tearing all over the place and leaving their marks on steps and paths.
But today, I have begun organising a storytelling Cafe for March 20th which is World Storytelling Day. Alice Robertson and I are looking for people to attend a storytelling Cafe in the afternoon say from 2pm – 4pm to hear stories and to share their own. We are going to follow the two themes pertinent to March internationally. Water is the World Storytelling Day theme and March is also the month for telling stories of Great Women. Our venue is not yet confirmed so I’ll let you know as soon as. But let me know if you’re coming. I am pursuing storytellers who would like to tell and will let you know when I hear from them. It’s a bit last minute but I’m going with the energy flow.
One last photo above – my ‘River Stone’ Rug woven late last year.
